Tell me about the US Clinical Researcher Competition

The competition embraces clinical researchers from pharma companies, CROs and investigator sites and recognizes, rewards and celebrates excellence in clinical research.

The  US Clinical Researcher of the Year is run by a dedicated  Executive Steering Committee (ESC), comprised of senior clinical leaders from top Pharma companies, leading CRO  and Site Management Organizations. Their mission is to raise the importance and profile of clinical research in the US by recognizing outstanding individual clinical rearchers and research teams.

The competition welcomes entry from:

Stage One - The Multiple Choice Questionnaire (MCQ)
Runs from October 2010 till February 18, 2011.

Following registration, you are invited to complete a multiple choice questionnaire. The MCQ has been devised by the Executive Steering Committee and is based on ICH/GCP/FDA regulatory guidelines.  You will be presented with 20 questions, randomly selected from a pool of 50 questions.  The information you need is in public domain, so please feel free to do the necessary research.  This is an open-book exercise and is not timed.  We expect you to pass with flying colours!

Stage Two – The Clinical  Challenge
Challenges will be available from November 18, 2010 and must be returned by February 18, 2011.

Once you have successfully negotiated the MCQ, we will send you a clinical challenge, specifically designed for your category.  This will be a short case study scenario that you need to respond to in no more than 1,000 words.  It will need some thinking about, but should be no more than a couple of hours concentrated effort to complete.  The challenges are available from November 18, so the earlier you complete the MCQ, the longer lead time you have to complete the challenge!

Your challenge response is anonymised prior to dispatch to the judging panels and so the judges do not know your name or company. The code is broken live at a steering group meeting and we will advise no later than March 11, 2011, who has made it through to the finals......stand by your phones!

Stage
Three - The Finals & Awards
7 April 2011, Pennsylvania.

The Finals take  place at Shire Pharmaceuticals in Wayne, Pennsylvania.  There is no preparation for you to do prior to the finals which will help minimise any loss of focus (and sleep!) on your day job.

You will be presented with a new challenge and some time to prepare for a presentation and interview with the judging panel drawn from the Executive Steering Committee.  We will plan the judging panels so that you will not be judged by someone from your own organisation.  There is enough stress without having to perform for one of the bosses!

The announcement of the winners and presentations are made later in the evening at a splendid gala dinner (black tie) at Dolce Valley Forge Hotel, King of Prussia, PA.  This is a fabulous occasion where we can recognise and celebrate your achievements.  The winners are presented with the prestigious Pharma Award and a cheque for $1,000.
